The phrase was coined by IBM as a name for their Intel 8086 computer series. ===== What it means to me ===== So what makes a computer personal to me? *A **PC** is yours to own, intended to last forever, or as long as the hardware can survive. *You can study every bit of the code that makes it run. *You can program it yourself without much effort. *One person can understand how it works without any special knowledge other than math and logic, by this I mean not just the CPU but everything else. Microcomputers of the 80s come to mind. Modern "PC"s don't fit this criteria because they use extremely complicated design models.
